3D printers come in a wide range of different sizes, types and capabilities. When you compare 3D printers on the market, you need to take a number of factors into consideration, including the size and capability of the hot end.
Aleph Objects might have just made things simpler for fans of both RepRap and DIY 3D printers. They’ve announced they’re releasing the popular LulzBot™ v2 hot ends for use with other printers.
A Look at the New Releases
Aleph Objects dates back to 2011, and the company has made quite a name for themselves thanks to their dedication to quality products, as well as offering free software. You probably know them best as the makers of the LulzBot™ series of 3D desktop printers, though.
LulzBot™ 3D printers are among the most popular in the industry for many reasons. One of those is Aleph Objects’ commitment to being open sourced and freely sharing.
They’ve taken one more step in that direction with the announcement that they’ll be releasing the LulzBot™ v2 hot ends for general users.
“The market for 3D printers continues to rapidly grow and evolve, with many customers choosing LulzBot 3D printers today for their ease of use and reliability. The technology, however, is rooted in the hacker and RepRap communities, and we are proud to continue to serve those communities by now offering our popular v2 hot ends as separate products,” explained the company’s Vice President of Marketing, Harris Kenny.
The hot end is high-performance, and its all-metal construction ensures that it can withstand temperatures of up to 300 degrees C. That means users are able to print with specialty filaments without worry (up to 3 mm).
The company is releasing three different nozzle diameters to the public, all of which can be purchased singly, or in a three-pack for those who want some variety.
The sizes include:
- 35 mm: This diameter offers ultrafine precision and resolution
- 50 mm: Accuracy, speed and precision are the hallmarks of this size
- 60 mm: This nozzle size was developed to provide better layer adhesion combined with enhanced production and performance
In addition, Aleph Objects is also offering the LulzBot v2 hot end with a mount plate and wires.
All three nozzle sizes also feature additional benefits. For instance, the heater block has been lengthened to provide a larger melting zone.
That delivers faster prints and better reliability. You’ll also find that the cooling zone is compact, so the hot end will cool easily, but cooling wont’ affect print volume.
Finally, each nozzle comes with a pre-installed 24V ceramic heater cartridge, as well as a 100k thermistor, and there’s an aluminum mounting plate with wiring for the thermistor and heater.
